"Side-effect" means any phenomenon or effect that humans do not anticipate. 

Humans have evolved by filling it with desire for something and following the consequences. 

Maybe clothes are ‘side-effect’ as well. Humans evolved to shed their hair to survive, 

and got clothes from Side-Effect.

The irony is that the clothes, 

which are secondary results, represent humans more humanly.
